Her Slice of the American Dream….
Diana Fridlyand of Duluth, Georgia immigrated to the United States from Minsk, Belarus in 1993. After winning multiple awards in high school, she is a double major in biology and chemistry at Emory University in Atlanta. In 2008. She was awarded the Annette and Irwin Eskind Scholarship.
In her own words: "I believe that my slice of the American dream is really out there, and I am determined to find it. Leon Uris would describe it as an 'indomitable spirit,' one which I am sure will help me surmount any obstacle that life has to offer. My heritage has provided the basis for my aspirations, and now it is my turn to contribute to my family's history.
“My parents have told me how difficult it was to immigrate with a three-year-old child and assimilate into a foreign culture. HIAS has played an enormous role in their success. Today, fifteen years after we set foot in America, HIAS is helping me accomplish my goals and the goals my parents had for me. This opportunity is my family’s American dream.”
