HIAS

U. S.

Russian Comm/Outreach

We serve the more than half a million people who left the Former Soviet Union (FSU) in the past 40 years and, with HIAS’ help, resettled in cities and towns across the United States.

Through both the outreach programs listed below and our Russian and English resources and publications, we work to ensure our former clients have the tools to become active and engaged members of the Jewish community.

LOREO (Local Russian Émigré Organizations)
unites more than 100 Russian-speaking émigré organizations, serving as an informational clearinghouse for both grassroots groups and the community at large. Through LOREO, HIAS offers technical assistance, educational materials, the opportunity to participate in and support national events, and help with leadership development.

CVEI (Civic and Voter Education Initiative)
is a joint project of HIAS and The American Forum of World Congress of Russian Jewry. This nationwide program engages the Russian-speaking community in American social and civic life, bringing individuals together to establish a strong national voice. Numerous publications and a comprehensive website provide information on local government and political and civic institutions.

HIAS Answers
is a bi-weekly, Russian-language television show that airs on WMNB/RTN in 40 cities across the country. The program reaches hundreds of thousands of households and features in-depth discussions on legislation, acculturation, and other subjects of interest to the émigré community.

LADDER
LADDER (Russian-American Advanced Leadership Initiative)
is a joint project between HIAS, UJA Federation of New York, and Kings Bay YM/YWHA that identifies, nourishes, and cultivates future communal and political leaders from the Russian-speaking community who will become advocates for the community and Jewish leaders of the mainstream Federated agencies and organizations.
